EHF Scandal: Lazarov Tied the Match, Refs Didn't Signal a Goal PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 January 2012

The Macedonian delegation in Nish is furious over what happened in the dying seconds against Germany.

Kiril Lazarov sent a bomb towards the German goal, which hit the metal pipe that holds the net, clearly being a goal, however both Icelandic referees remained quiet, never signaled a goal and allowed time to expire.

As MINA had stated previously, the German handball federation has major clout with the EHF (they were able to change the referees for the match hours before its start).

Macedonia is demanding a goal and a tied match or replaying the match against Germany.

EHF Rules clearly state that a match must be replayed when fundamental handball rules are broken, one of which is referees 'forgetting' to signal a clear goal.

Few German players saw the ball entered the goal, hence their wild celebration afterwards.

Dragan Nachevski, one of the best European handball referees, currently head of the Macedonian handball delegation says this is a huge scandal. "I have to admit, the chances of EHF doing anything that would upset Germany are minimal. Fundamental handball rules were broken in this match and obviously the justice is on our side.

Kudos to German media and their journalists who believe it or not were the first ones to catch the goal and call out the EHF!
