It all started so bright, and it ended so sad. Macedonia managed to lose another match that many supporters believed it was a "sure" win. Though the entire team bears responsibility for this fiasco, Macedonia's goalkeeper Ristovski was an absolute disaster. During the first half the Danes were confused and Macedonia took advantage constantly increasing their lead. The biggest lead was six goals. 16-10 and 17-11. At 17-11, Macedonia's goalkeeper showboated, tried to score from his own goal instead of giving the ball to his teammates?!!! This showboating, this unprofessional and sad move by Ristovski seemeed to invigorate the Danes who started becoming aggresive, playing much better and better. At the same time Ristovski played worse and worse as each minute ticked away. The last 5 minutes of the first half, Macedonia failed to score while the Danes scored four times. 19-16 was lead the red and yellow took going into half time. In the second half, Ristovski continued to be at his worst, with each Danish shot ending up in his net. Macedonian fans became increasingly nervous and started chanting "Divi, Divi", which is the nickname for the second goalkeeper Petar Angelov who many view as the better goalkeepr. Denmark continued to score and completely turned the score around in their favor. In the 47th minute it was 24-23 to Denmark, and four minutes later the Danes had a three goal lead 29-26. Despite pleas from fans to replace Ristovski coach Zoran Shundovski remained his stubborn self. With five minutes to go, when all seemed lost, coach Shundovski decided to replace goalie Ristovski with Angelov, something he should have done much earlier. Things turned around as soon as Angelov entered the match. He made two saves, while Macedonia quickly scored twice and we were tied. With the match tied Macedonia had a chance to win the match, unfortunately Lazarov missed, and the Danes via their famous quick counter attacks virtually scored in the last second of the match for a final score of 33-32.
One would think our coach would have learnt from the mistakes he made against Sweden and Germany!!! Macedonian coach Shundovski and goalie Ristovski proved very costly for the Macedonian national team. //Pero Stamatovski
