Eurohandball: Macedonia beats Serbia 22-19 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 January 2012

Semifinal gone, but the door to the Olympic games 2012 is open.

This was perhaps a match that will likely disappoint many Serbian handball fans, there were 10,000 Macedonian and 2,000 Serbian fans... in Belgrade.

The Serbian players will certainly like more support in their Semi-final match against Croatia.

With this very important win over Serbia, Macedonia moved up to the third spot. Could have played for a medal if not for that last second goal allowed against Denmark. But the past is that, the past.

The game itself was a bit strange. The Macedonian team started extremely slow as if they were warming up. We couldn't see even 10% of the passion and speed we saw in other matches. Whether this was because Serbia is considered a 'friend' or was it because the red and yellow decided to 'take it easy' because of the sitting out of Stanic (Metalurg's goalie) and Ilic... either way, both teams seemed like they would not give their 100%. And they didn't!

The red and yellow lead through most of the match, except in the 49th minute when Serbia took a one goal lead. But, Macedonia was able to quickly tie it and via few counter attacks to increase the lead to two and later to three goals.

Ristovski had a good game with 15 saves.
