The
Serbian Armed Forces and the Military Geographical Institute have
acquired an aircraft after nearly three decades, and it is a Piper
Seneca V equipped with modern tools for aerial photo geometry and worth
EUR 2.7 million.
The plane landed at the Batajnica airbase on Tuesday,
head of the Defence Ministry department for public relations Colonel
Milivoje Pajovic told Tanjug. The Defence Ministry bought the aircraft
for the Military Geographical Institute. It is equipped with the latest
tools for digital aerial photo geometry.
The investment allows for collection and analysis of
geospatial data in digital form and according to modern EU standards. It
also enables the development and implementation of a national
geographical information system and creation of a geospatial database to
be used by the Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry stated.
Besides aerial photography, the airplane can also be
used for special training by the airforce and transport. The
introduction of digital aerial photography is important for
re-establishing Serbia's aerial photogrammetry, which was first done by
the Military Geographical Institute back in 1950.
