Facebook should be paying its Members PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 March 2012

Facebook has the world's best business model in which its workers are not paid a single cent. The workers number around 680 million people (numbers are falling) world wide and do their work every day, some are even treated for something called "facebook addiction".

The way Facebook makes its money ($ billions) is by selling advertising space to many, many companies. Advertising is targeted to individuals, groups, companies, cities regions, countries etc.

If you and or your group are writing about specific products in Facebook, you will be targeted by companies with ads offering similar products.

You are the Facebook worker, in it that you provide the content (for free) and then Facebook analyzes and sells your content to companies saying "look we have 10 million people talking  (mentioning the word) Coca Cola". Dr Pepper comes in and says to Facebook "Here are $5 million to run an advertising campaign for those 10 million people".

Facebook will get its $5 million, while the people talking about Coca Cola and responsible for Facebook getting the deal in the first place will receive $0.

Is this fair? I don't think so.

Facebook may identify something I'd call "power users" such as companies or active individuals who have thousands upon thousands of 'friends' which means endless discussions/content for Facebook to Sell.

These power users drive traffic to Facebook, and are responsible for most of the revenue Facebook receives. Zuckerberg certainly knows who these power users are, after all Facebook's entire business model is based on analyzing and selling data.

Until Facebook comes up with a business model in which it pays its workers (members), I will not open an account there. <--- You see this behind me, I get paid to write this!  //Gorazd Velkovski
