The
European Union is in a situation where the entire focus is put on the
financial problems and the euro's salvation, said Prime Minister Nikola
Gruevski after the end of Friday's European People's Party (EPP) meeting
in Brussels.
"The EPP summit was an opportunity to meet with
countries' heads of states and governments, as well as centre-right
opposition leaders. The eurozone crisis was in the focus of discussions,
with participants saying the situation is exceptionally difficult,
whereas things should be solved without any delays", said PM Gruevski.
According to him, the summit also referred to the
creation of a banking union, where the European Central Bank would be
able to take actions in a situation of bank insolvency in Union
member-states.
With regards to the EU enlargement, Gruevski said it
is normal that the focus is currently put on the European single
currency and end of the debt crisis.
"It was concluded that short- and long-term measures
are required, which should be properly explained to citizens in
member-states, since certain unpopular measures would have to be
undertaken", stressed PM Gruevski.
