After the first game in Malta (2-2), Metalurg moves on to the next round thanks to those two crucial away goals scored at Birkirkara. The return match played in Kumanovo once again ended in a draw, except this time it was 0-0. The scoreline perhaps is misleading because the return match in Kumanovo was full of opportunities for both teams to come away as winners. The first half in particular was excellent, the visitors from Malta had nothing to lose because of the scoreline in the first match, so they went on the attack. Birkirkara's Fenech had an ideal opportunity to open the scoreline, however he missed. On the other side Krsev send a cannon ball into the cross bar, and shortly after Nestorovski failed to open the scoreline for Metalurg, much to the disappointment of the home fans. In the 36th minute, Shodiya sent a shot that rattled the woodwork. The second half was played mostly on the midfield, with both teams attempting to take the lead, however both goalies had a great and (lucky) day and managed to kept the ball out of their net. In the end, thanks to those two goals scored away, Metalurg is moving on to face Ruch Chorzow of Poland.
