As much as we love Gjorgji Hristov, it has become increasingly evident that good players are not necessarily good coaches. Just as with Vardar, Metalurg failed to preserve a lead, this time in the Europa League against Ruch of Poland. Both Vardar and now Metalurg are coming home from their respected encounters in complete shock. While Vardar managed to concede two goals in extra time allowing BATE Borisov a complete turnaround (1-2 to 3-2), Metalurg lead 0-1 in the 70th minute... and then comes the terrible coaching decision by Hristov... substitutes two great offensive players, replaces them with defensive minded players. Hristov opted for a cowardly move, tried to 'defend' a 1-0 lead by focusing on defense for the last 20 minutes of the match. This move was welcomed by Ruch and thanked Metalurg by scoring three goals, the third one in the 91st minute. The worrying fact about Hristov is that he pulled off the same move against Birkirkara in Malta. Metalurg there too had the lead and allowed a goal after substituting midfielders and strikers for defensive minded players! Metalurg isn't at the level of FC Vardar, sadly moves by Hristov have hurt the club in European competition.
