Wednesday, 25 July 2012

Strumica Municipality declared Wednesday a Day of Mourning following yesterday's death of brothers Stojanovi, Blazo (50) and Peno (46), who suffered fatal injuries in a wildfire near the town.

The police will press criminal charges against a 24-year-old Strumica woman, who is suspected of causing general threat after burning old clothes. The fire spread to the nearby forest and later resulted in two deaths and 12 others injured.

"We share the pain of the families of our fellow citizens, who sacrificed their lives in extinguishing the wildfires. At the same time, we pray for the recovery of the three other who are being treated in Skopje", said Strumica Mayor Zoran Zaev.

Citizens have been lighting candles for the perished brothers at the town square since learning about the tragic news yesterday.

Three persons are treated in the Skopje Surgical Hospital, one of whom is in critical condition. Five of the nine people admitted in the Strumica Medical Center have been sent home, while four are still treated, but are in stable condition.
