Greek American Susan Bysiewicz was briefly a candidate for Governor of Connecticut in 2010, before dropping out to run for Connecticut Attorney General. She was disqualified from running for the office by the Connecticut Supreme Court and announced in 2011 that she was running for the U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Joe Lieberman. As a Senator she has made her focus known to her constituents in it that she is very interested to represent the Greek Government in their 'struggle' against Macedonia. As part of Bysiewicz's platform, she has promised to stop US aid to Macedonia until the country could prove to her that it negotiates its name with Athens in good will. At no point does Bysiewicz's 'program' mentions the financial crisis in Greece, however few pages are allocated on her plans to call the transfer/exchange of Turkish Christians and their settling in Aegean Macedonia as "genocide". After the retirement of Olympia Snow, the Greek community in the US doesn't have presence of Greek Americans in Senate. Bysiewicz is a Democrat just like the retiring Lieberman, however latest polls show her behind Murphy, her contender for the Senate seat.
