Referee helps Juventus beat Napoli in Super Coppa PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 11 August 2012

Juventus beat nine-man Napoli 4-2 after extra time to win the Italian Supercoppa at the National Stadium in Beijing.

The match seemed finely balanced going into the extra period after Napoli's first half goals from Edinson Cavani and Goran Pandev were matched by Kwadwo Asamoah's first-half effort for Juve and Arturo Vidal's second-half penalty.

But Napoli's afternoon seemingly fell apart thanks to bizarre decisions by the referee as Pandev was sent off in the 85th minute and Juan Zuniga three minutes into injury time.

Pandev's red card was brutal, the Macedonian international was walking after an offside call when he faced a drawn red card by the referee. The Italian ref was very quick to draw a red card for Zuniga as well.

Christian Maggio then adding further insult with an own goal before Juventus's Mirko Vucinic put the game safe in the 101st minute.

Italians being famous for match fixing, this maybe the most blatant case where the referee simply did everything possible to ensure a Juventus win.

Napoli players refused to receive their medals and did not participate in the ceremony or wished to see Juventus lifting the Cup. According to Napoli's management they did not want to participate in such a blatant robbery and match fixing.
