No EPL, Guardiaola signs with Bayern Munich
Thursday, 17 January 2013

One of football’s most wanted coaches, Pep Guardiola, has finally found a new job, signing a deal with German powerhouse, Bayern Munich.

The sides have struck a three-year deal on Wednesday, with Guardiola to take charge of Bayern this summer – after the end of the 2012/13 season.

“We are delighted we’ve succeeded in appointing leading coach Pep Guardiola, who has been pursued and contacted by many big-name clubs, for FC Bayern," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern chairman, told the club’s official website. “Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world, and we’re certain he will add great flair to both FC Bayern and German football."

Bayern’s current coach, Jupp Heynckes, will most likely remain at the Munich club after the reshuffle, taking a position in administration.

“We are extremely grateful to Jupp Heynckes for all his work,” Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich supervisory board chairman, commented. “Following his decision, we would be delighted if the team was to give this coaching great the glorious farewell he deserves. As a worthy successor to Jupp Heynckes, only a coach of Pep Guardiola's caliber comes into question."

Guardiola has claimed 13 trophies during his four years at FC Barcelona, including three Spanish La Liga titles and two wins in the Champions League.

The 41-year-old left the Catalan club, which was referred to as the best team in the world during his rule, in April 2012, saying he needed rest.

There have been numerous rumors about the Spaniard's new job in the past month, with Chelsea, Manchester City and the Russian national football team all being mentioned as possible options.
