President Ivanov slams EU in National Address
Tuesday, 22 December 2015

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov sharply criticized the EU’s policy on migration in his annual speech before the country's parliament on Tuesday, AP reported. Ivanov accused the EU of having a dysfunctional system for distributing refugees among member states.

He also criticized the bloc for allowing some countries not to register migrants and refugees, and for allowing member states to take unilateral decisions on the issue.

More than 700,000 people have passed through Macedonia so far this year, with Ivanov saying Macedonia has been left to cope with the crisis alone. Macedonia “bears the consequences of the failure of the Union,” the president said.
