It was a do or die match for Scotland as it hosted Macedonia in their Euro qualification quest for Poland next year. However, the same could be said of Macedonia who sat third at the table behind France and Iceland. Three vital points were up for grabs for both teams.

Vardar's goalie,  Igor Aleksovski was certainly the MVP of this match as it stopped everything possible and impossible that was sent towards his goal.

Macedonia knew it was in for a physical match early on and adapted well to the Scottish tactic of sending long balls bypassing the midfield.

Macedonia relied on counter attacks, and during one such attack, Radeski found Rabotnicki based attacker Kire Markoski who finished it off after some superb passing, quieting the Scottish crowd early on.

The visitors received 6 yellow cards, including a red to Bejtulai in the 67th minute, somehow the Scottish were never booked by the Romanian ref.

Drama in the dying seconds of the match.  A high ball into the Macedonian box struck a hand, leading the ref to point to the spot which infuriated the Macedonian players who stormed towards the sideline referee. Following mass protest at the near side assistant referee, Coltescu then changed his mind, claiming it had indeed struck a Scotland, not a Macedonian player. Pictures later revealed the Macedonians were right to protest as it was McBurnie who was the culprit.

Needless to say, the refereeing was below par, however Macedonia earned 3 very important points in their quest to qualify. Macedonia is now 2nd with 15 pts, tied with Iceland (-1). Earlier today, Ukraine shocked France by beating them 1-0 in the last moments of the match, denying France crucial points in the race to qualify.

Macedonia's coach Blagoja Milevski was not surprisingly thrilled after the win.

Боби Милевски: Ова е плод на нашата борба, дух, верба и единство!

After the match Milevski said: My guys believe in their quality. We enter each match to win it, it's a mentality we've been building as a team for two years now. We had several injured players, including our goalie Aleksovski who was badly hurt, but couldn't leave the match because we already subbed three players. My hats off to him. We have two matches remaining, we know what we need to do - said Milevski after the match.
