Parliament Session postponed for Monday
Friday, 31 March 2017

The Parliament debate on the election of Speaker, his deputy and members of the Committee on Election and Appointment entered the fifth day Friday, dominated by a brawl between the MPs of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM.

VMRO-DPMNE deputies reiterated their requests for denouncing the so-called Tirana platform or scheduling of new parliamentary elections alongside the local ones. SDSM on its part urged for an end to the violation of the Rules of Procedures, saying the debate should focus on the agenda, namely an election of members of the Committee on Election and Appointment, Parliament Speaker, followed by voting on the new government program.

According to an agreement reached among the MP groups, VMRO-DPMNE is set to have six members in the Committee, including the chairman, SDSM-5, DUI-1 and Besa-1.

The Committee approval is the prerequisite for election of a Parliament Speaker.

The Parliament wrapped up its work for today, scheduling a resumption of the constitutive session for Monday.

The constitutive session kicked off on December 30, but was interrupted since there was no parliamentary majority for election of a Speaker.
