Talat Xhaferi begins work duties in Parliament Speaker

The newly-elected Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi, today in the Speaker's office has kicked off his work duties, the office of the Head of Macedonia's Parliament said Wednesday.

"Alongside members of his office and Parliament's services, he is conducting all formal and administrative affairs that need to be completed so as to allow normal functioning and performance of his duties as Head of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. Moreover, the handover act itself was done in a normal fashion in line with the principles of parliamentary system," read the office's press release.

Also, the Parliament's press service said that "the Head of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, held a meeting, in his cabinet, with EU Ambassador Samuel Zbogar."

"In the meeting, Ambassador Zbogar had once again congratulated Talat Xhaferi on his election, noting that with this, the Parliament and the Republic of Macedonia are resuming the process of full integration into Euro-Atlantic structures," read a separate press release.

By taking up the post, Xhaferi said, first and foremost I will focus my activities on bolstering democratic processes and complete fulfillment of the principles of parliamentary democracy in the functioning of the country's Parliament, its legislative assembly.

"I expect swift formation of a new government, followed by joining all of our forces to respect, first and foremost, the independence of all branches of government so as to work for the well-being of all the citizens in the Republic of Macedonia and to meet our strategic ambitions - NATO and EU membership," stated Xhaferi.
