Lerin demonstrators may go to Court PDF Print E-mail

Image Lerin demonstrators were freed this morning by the Lerin Court on basis there were not enough evidence against them. However, Lerin's police chief for BBC Macedonian confirms that they will go to Court.

More than a dozen people were hurt in clashes between Greek special police and Macedonians in and around Lerin. One of the demonstrators ended up in hospital with broken arm.

Situation in Zabrdeni is peaceful at the moment. The four detained individuals from last night were freed, one of them was the president of Zabrdeni municipality, Miukopulos (Kole Mickov).

Ten days ago the Greek Army had agreed to leave the Lerin prefecture at the request of local residents, however yesterday showed up again, except this time accompanied by several hundred special police force.

After local population attempted to protest the military exercises, the special police intervened.

Greek Media with their version

Greek media, today, as expected with their version of the incidents. "Two times in two weeks residents of the village of Lofi prevented military exercises of the Greek Army", starts Greek daily "To Vima".

"They attacked the military area and prevented the completion of planned military exercise, thus forcing the involvment of prosecutors and police authorities in the incident" says To Vima.

The Greek papers missed out on explaining that the tanks were on private land, and that the police showed up with the Army.
