Thunderstorms that swept across Greece last night have
killed two people, while the country is recovering from days of nationwide
riots.
Riots across Greece,
triggered by the fatal shooting of a teenager by police but fueled by deep nationwide
anger over economic hardship, have shaken the conservative government.
There were no reports on riots last nights, as severe weather and showers had
apparently averted the protesters from going out on the streets.
One stone-throwing incident was reported in Athens around midnight. In other incident,
students hurled rocks at riot police outside a university in Athens. No
incidents were reported in Salonika.
Greece
braces for fresh unrest, as more protests are planned for Friday.
The storm forced the authorities to ban sailing of all ships due to wind of 102
kmph. A 38-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter had drowned when their
car felt into the harbor of Poros on the Ionian island of Cephalonia.
Floods hit Peloponnesus and Volos in central Greece. //12.12.08
