There is no doubt, no one would want to be in the shoes of Macedonian Government Officials. With full daily agenda that includes dealing with an outside destabilizing influence from Greece, and an internal destabilizing factors in the SDSM, DUI, DPA, ND, both the Prime Minister and the Ministers are occupied at all times.
Recently, Kosovo’s president tried to create a scandal by canceling his visit to Macedonia because there would be no ‘red carpet’ awaiting him. Our red carpet was scheduled for laundry that particular week. This in itself is not a scandal, because Macedonia and Kosovo have not established diplomatic relationship. Kosovo is not a country in world terms, has not been admitted in the UN, and is recognized by around 55 countries, all coerced into recognizing the small lawless patch of land.
Kosovo, on paper (major emphasis on the word “paper”) has two million inhabitants (as much as Macedonia). How can that be, a western diplomat once asked! Kosovo’s biggest city is Pristina, a city three times smaller than Skopje. It’s their only ‘major’ city, yet with the half dozen small towns somehow reaches two million? The true population is slightly over one million and dwindling by the day.
Ghost people
Recently, the EU raised their eyebrows when in the recent Macedonian elections, out of our 2 million citizens, 1.85 million had voting rights?
According to the voting figures, in Macedonia there are 150,000 people below the age of 18, even though the national health and statistics office both confirm almost 400,000 citizens who are below the age of 18.
So who are these 250,000 people who don’t exist but somehow fill out and submit a voting ballot? Bingo! They are Albanians, and you can thank the EU and NATO for it. These fictitious Albanians were created in 2001 to satisfy the current EU/NATO agenda. Over night, ethnic Albanians in Macedonia went from 11% to 25% of the population. These people don’t exist, but they do vote, every election since 2001. This bizarro world doesn’t end there. When you review Macedonia’s State Electoral Code (this information is public), and the voting in Western Macedonia, you’d see ethnic Albanian villages of 300 people who somehow ended up submitting 550-750 votes, more than twice the population. I realize Albanians are special people, but even special people shouldn’t get counted twice!
Perhaps this is how Kosovo counts their population, everyone gets two counts?
Ex Macedonian president, Boris Trajkovski was very aware what was occurring in Western Macedonia. When the SDSM announced that the Electoral code would be changed across the country, in other words this practice of counting ghost people would be cemented, Trajkovski objected that he would never sign such a document. We know what happened after.
Taiwanize Kosovo Recently, several politicians of the Albanian block representing both their ghost and people electorate issued warning to the Macedonian Government. The warning consisted of: settling the name dispute with Greece by a specific deadline, even though it’s not up to Macedonia or the Government to settle the issue. They also warned on entering NATO by a specific date and the visa liberalization process. Otherwise a ‘repeat of 2001 could happen…’
These remarks came from Albanian politicians currently in Government (Teuta Arifi, Rafiz Aliti), and opposition members (Thaci, Imer Selmani…). Granted, you normally don't see Government Officials (DUI) threatening to destabilize their own country. Albanian politicians are incapable of showing even fake allegiances to Macedonia. Kosovo is always first on their agenda, perhaps because most of them do hail from there.
Macedonia should consider un-recognizing Kosovo, the same way it did with Taiwan a decade ago. That way there would be less focus on a 'red carpet'. Lastly and most importantly, it is not clear why Macedonia has not imposed visas to Kosovo citizens? Most of the major robberies in the capital, including the last one at ProKredit Bank are organized and carried out from Kosovo. Imposing visa and travel restrictions to Kosovo residents would be a logical move at this point. //Gorazd V.
