The items excavated yesterday at site Gorna Porta in Ohrid is invaluable for Macedonia, but also for the archaeological science in general, said Sunday director of the Culture Heritage Protection Office, Pasko Kuzman.
Kuzman stated that 17 graves, most of which from the Macedonian period (5th century BC) were excavated, including diverse items, mostly jewelry.
According to him, a young female noble was buried in the tomb, decorated with golden items in a way not seen before on the Balkans.
Kuzman added that the tomb included other amber items, which is unusual for this region, meaning there had been strong commercial ties with the north in the 5th century BC.
Archaeologist Kuzman stressed that such valuable archaeological findings only confirm Ohrid's position as a glamorous resort in antique times.
Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska emphasized that the Government's efforts in protecting cultural heritage and site excavations are confirmed by such findings.
"These are significant artifacts that confirm our identity, history and culture", added Kanceska-Milevska.
