Macedonia
takes good care of itself. Relations with neighbors and USA are
normalized, and as things develop their influence reduces, said Daniel
Serwer from the Washington-based U.S. Institute of Peace.
"Greece tries to improve relations with neighbors. I
hope this includes Macedonia too. For now I cannot foresee the
solution, but I can assure you that if Macedonia wants to call itself
Macedonia, many of us will continue to do so, regardless of wording in
those small documents", Serwer told the Macedonian Television.
He reiterated that USA would continue to strongly
support Macedonia, but it is essential at this time to find compromise
and enable the country's NATO accession.
According to Serwer, Greek Prime Minister George
Papandreou would not decide on replacement of reference FYROM, but the
Macedonian citizens.
"It would be wonderful if Papandreou's wish to see
all Western Balkan countries, including Macedonia, in the EU at the
100th World War I anniversary materializes", stressed the Institute of
Peace representative.
He added that from a political point of view, EU could not openly intervene in the issue, since Greece is a member-state.
"When Macedonia becomes an EU member, it could block certain issues too", underlined Serwer.
