The Government of Macedonia will ask for an explanation from Greece's authorities via an official letter  regarding their decision to ban the flights of "Macedonian Air Transport - MAT", an airline based in Macedonia.

- This decision not only violates basic human rights, UN documents and EU charters, but it also violates the neighbourly ties between the two countries and nations. The right of freedom of movement is guaranteed in every document of the European Union, as well as the right of expressing your own identity, both for individuals and corporations and NGOs, Government spokesman Ivica Bocevski told reporters on Thursday.

He added the Government, despite sending an official letter to the Government of Greece, would inform all EU institutions about the case.

- We hope that in the spirit of neighbourly relations and European integration, toward which the Republic of Macedonia aspires, and in the spirit of EU's internal rules, the Greek Government will call off this unfortunate decision, noted Bocevski.
