In an article titled "Ghadafi and his Balkan Connection", the UK based 'Economist' writes of the Libyan's leader deep rooted connections with the former Yugoslavia and its present day independent states. Col. Ghadafi has been in charge of Libya so long, that he had a very close relationship with the famous Yugoslavian leader Josip Broz Tito, states the Economist. Ghadafi's second wife Sofija (presently Safija) is a Bosnian Croat, born and raised in Mostar. Their son Saif Al Islam is the next in line to take control of Libya. During the last 20 years, Ghadafi was very close with ex Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic. The Libyan leader even sided with Milosevich in his war against Bosnia's muslims, states the Economist. The most bizarre meeting between Ghadafi and a Balkan leader goes to current Kosovo president Bedzet Pacoli who visited Ghadafi with his delegation in one of his famous bedouin tents. In it, Ghadafi asked Pacoli to sing and dance for him in order for Libya to recognize Kosovo as a country. Kosovo's president and his delegation danced and sang the night away for Ghadafi's amusement, writes the Economist. At the end, Ghadafi told Pacoli that Libya can not recognize Kosovo as a country, because its leaders are puppies who dance and sing to the Americans. |
