To say that Ivan Ukhov is our favorite athlete would be an understatement. Back in 2008, he made the front pages world wide and caused major embarassment back in his native Russia after appearing drunk to compete at a World Cup event in Switzerland. His high jump in 2008 was spectacularly hilarious, but for someone as drunk as he was, it was very good because he made it all the way to the mat.
Fast forward to Olympic Games 2012. Ukhov tells the high jump referee "I can't find my jersey, someone stole it". Ok, so people thought he was drunk once again, but he wasn't, someone indeed stole his jersey. The ref told him to put on something and stick his number on the front as he had 1 minute left to complete the jump (everything is timed). Ukhov put on a basic t-shirt which for a high jump is not the best thing to do. He jumped flawlessly, despite his shirt hanging from the sides.
Later on Ukhov borrowed an actual jersey from a team mate and won the gold! And people say drinking doesn't pay off! //Pero Stamatovski |
